Asylum statistics August 2026

· Bundesklar Redaktion

In August 2026, the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) recorded 1896 asylum applications, 13.2 per cent fewer than in August 2025. Compared with the previous month, this corresponds to a decrease of 1 per cent. As already announced, SEM has revised its annual forecast in the asylum sector downwards. Whereas in January it still expected 25,000 (+/–3,000) new asylum applications, SEM now assumes, in the most likely scenario, that a total of 22,000 (+/–2,000) applications will be submitted in Switzerland in 2026. SEM also recently adjusted its forecast for applications for protection status S from refugees from Ukraine. It no longer expects 12,000 (+/–3,000) applications, but 10,000 (+/–1,000).
