Core Office functions include email, calendar, documents and presentations, telephony, and audio and video conferencing. In the pilot phase of the programme for sovereign workplace software, the Federal Chancellery is focusing on building the platform. The sovereign workplace software is to be available as a standalone solution operated alongside Microsoft 365. The programme is aimed at selected employees from various departments and the Federal Chancellery who work in particularly critical business processes. The corresponding solution for around 3000 users is to be available from the end of 2027.
For this first phase, the Federal Chancellery estimates costs at 9 million Swiss francs. Funding is being provided from funds approved by Parliament for a sovereign Swiss open-source platform for office automation that is to be developed. The findings from this first phase will then also make it possible to estimate the costs of any large-scale introduction and the costs of regular operation.
