New key projects for digital transformation and IT designated

The programme for sovereign workplace software and the EasyGov 2.0 project are now managed as key projects of the Federal Administration. The Federal Chancellor took this decision on 1 October 2026 after consulting the Conference of Secretaries General. By contrast, the NEPRO project (new production systems of swisstopo) is no longer managed as a key project. This is due to the downsizing of the programme carried out in March 2026 and the resulting significant improvement in the risk situation. Key projects are projects of the Federal Administration in the field of digital transformation and IT that are of particular relevance owing to their scale, strategic importance, complexity or risks. They are projects that require enhanced steering, coordination and monitoring. The Swiss Federal Audit Office carries out systematic audits of key projects. Responsibility for the individual key projects remains with the departments and offices concerned.

Decision by the Federal Chancellor

Sovereign workplace software

To reduce dependence on foreign providers, the Federal Chancellery launched the programme for sovereign workplace software at the beginning of September. The project has a pronounced cross-departmental character and is of great importance for strengthening the digital sovereignty of the Federal Administration.

EasyGov 2.0

The EasyGov 2.0 project of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs is of high strategic importance for the economy and the Confederation. Companies use EasyGov for easy access to services from numerous administrative units in all departments. The project creates the technical and organisational basis for the stable further development of the EasyGov platform.

Total number and scope

The Federal Chancellor determines, in accordance with the Digital Transformation Ordinance, after consulting the Conference of Secretaries General, which projects are managed as key projects. Currently, 22 projects are defined as key projects of the Federal Administration. The total volume of all key projects corresponds to more than half of the effort of all ongoing IT projects in the civilian sector.
