Number of businesses in the cultural sector grows faster than in the economy as a whole

In 2024, the number of cultural businesses stood at 69 441. This represents an increase of 1.8% compared with the previous year and a new high since the first statistical year, 2011. Compared with 2019, that is, before the Covid-19 pandemic, Switzerland had 7.2% more cultural businesses – and a quarter more than in 2011. In the economy as a whole, the number of businesses has increased by 15.6% since 2011. Cultural businesses are also accounting for an ever larger share of it: while they made up 9.8% of all businesses in 2011, they accounted for 10.5% in 2019 and 10.7% in 2024.
