It has now decided to prohibit trade in Sudanese gold, which according to reports is an important conflict resource in the war in Sudan. The prohibition covers the purchase, import and transit of gold of Sudanese origin, as well as the provision of services and the granting of financial resources in connection with such gold. The sale and supply to Sudan of certain chemicals used for gold mining and gold extraction are likewise prohibited. The Federal Council is thus joining the EU decision of 13 July 2026 on sanctions against trade in Sudanese gold.
