Business 26.7743: New DWTI with toxicologically unjustified maximum values and no regulatory impact assessment: questionable feasibility regarding melamine jeopardises water supply security
The DWTI revision classifies melamine as a relevant pesticide metabolite, which is why a very low maximum value of 0.1 µg/l applies. For water suppliers, this value is a problem because treatment processes barely remove melamine from the water. This jeopardises the water supply. Is the Federal Council prepared a) to adjust the transitional periods, as new filtration facilities require 10 to 15 years of planning? b) to adjust the values to the higher German maximum value, which is harmless to health?
