The orientation day gives young Swiss women and men an insight into the armed forces and civil protection. They learn how service in these organisations is structured and what personal possibilities and opportunities such service can offer. On the orientation day, participants are informed about the recruitment process, the various functions in the armed forces and civil protection, further career opportunities, and their rights and obligations in the context of military and civil protection service. This promotes equal opportunities on the one hand; on the other, the Federal Council expects that this will lead more women to choose voluntary service and increase the proportion of women in the armed forces and civil protection.
