SERV insures Swiss companies against risks in export transactions when corresponding offerings are unavailable or insufficient on the private market. Its total insurance commitments currently amount to more than 11 billion francs. Given the challenging international market environment, demand for its services is expected to continue to rise.
The partial revision of the Act is intended to facilitate access to SERV’s products and reduce the administrative burden. The proposal creates the conditions for simpler procedures and more efficient processing. This will ease the burden on exporters, banks and SERV itself.
The proposal takes account of developments in the international export and financing environment. In particular, it aims to expand the options for insuring export transactions and their financing and to facilitate the involvement of Swiss suppliers in large projects structured internationally. Swiss SMEs wishing to participate in such projects as sub-suppliers or suppliers are also specifically intended to benefit.
SERV’s fundamental mandate remains unchanged: to create and maintain jobs in Switzerland and to promote Switzerland as a business location. SERV operates on a subsidiary basis, meaning that it complements the private insurance market, and will remain financially self-supporting.
The consultation runs until 4 February 2027. Political parties, cantons, umbrella organisations and other interested parties may comment on the partial revision of the SERV Act.
