The labour market situation in August 2026

The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO publishes its latest surveys on the labour market situation in Switzerland. In August 2026, the number of unemployed persons increased by 2’268 (+1,6%) compared with the previous month, reaching 141’544. Compared with the same month of the previous year, unemployment increased by 9’439 (+7,1%). The unemployment rate remained at 3,0% in August 2026.

In August 2026, the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed persons increased by 49 (+0,0%) compared with the previous month, reaching 147’970. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3,1% in August 2026.

From July 2026 to August 2026, the number of unemployed young people (aged 15 to 24) increased by 2’384 persons (+19,4%), reaching 14’678. Compared with the same month of the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 996 persons (+7,3%). In August 2026, the youth unemployment rate increased by 0,6 percentage points compared with the previous month, reaching 3,4%.
