The report on the status of the Action Plan for the Doubs at the end of 2025 shows progress in implementing the Action Plan: of the 51 measures, 34 have been completed and 9 are under way. Regular measurements show good to very good water quality. The removal of micropollutants at the La Chaux-de-Fonds wastewater treatment plant and at the planned new wastewater treatment plant in Le Locle will bring further improvements. Thanks to measures for the ecological restoration of hydropower, the Doubs no longer suffers from the effects of hydropeaking. At five tributaries, the mouths where they flow into the Doubs have been revitalised so that biotopes for fish and aquatic organisms can develop. The obstacles at the weirs of Ocourt and Bellefontaine still need to be removed so that the river is fully passable for fish.

As not all measures have yet been completed, the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and the cantons of Jura and Neuchâtel have decided to extend the Action Plan until 2030. The Confederation supports improving the ecological condition of the Doubs through the existing funding instruments for revitalisation, the ecological restoration of hydropower and the expansion of wastewater treatment plants.
