From the communication of the Economic Supply of the Country

The Delegate for Economic Supply of the Country, Roland Pfister, has authorised, within the framework of a temporary shortfall in meeting demand, drawdowns of diesel from the mandatory petroleum reserves. From 23 October to 22 November 2026, up to 45'000 m³ of diesel may be drawn. This corresponds to just under four per cent of the currently available mandatory reserve of diesel.

International petroleum markets have been tight since the start of the war in Iran. Switzerland's logistical supply has been severely affected for months by the persistently low water level on the Rhine. If a problem arises with one of the other modes of transport, this can quickly lead to a shortfall. For diesel, the delays in pumping crude oil and refined products due to heavy rainfall in southern France caused the supply gap.

The supply of aviation kerosene is ensured thanks to drawdowns from the mandatory reserves, which were authorised until 1 November 2026. The supply of petrol and heating oil is assured. The situation remains tight and fragile for all petroleum products. The Economic Supply of the Country, which also includes industry stakeholders, continues to monitor the supply situation closely.
