The pilot project is being implemented in collaboration with Swisscom. The data entered into PIA are not used to train AI models. Users can choose from various publicly accessible models (open-weight models). These are continually supplemented with new models. At present, the available models are primarily suited to processing committee documents. Comprehensive internet research or queries for current data are not currently possible. Operation and data storage are carried out exclusively by Swisscom in Switzerland. PIA thus meets Parliament’s high requirements for data protection and data sovereignty.

AI assistance for the Swiss Parliament: PIA enters pilot phase
At its meeting on Friday, 4 September 2026, the Administrative Delegation (AD) therefore approved PIA’s pilot operation, which will last around one year. PIA stands for «Parlamenti Intelligentia Artificialis» – in German «Künstliche Intelligenz des Parlaments» (translation: «Artificial Intelligence of Parliament»). Depending on the intensity of use, costs of up to a maximum of 150,000 francs are planned for the pilot operation and will be covered through the existing IT budget of the Parliamentary Services. PIA is aimed at Members of Parliament, their personal staff, group staff and staff of the Parliamentary Services. The tool will be introduced in the autumn session of 2026.
