By 15 votes to 10, the committee adopted the Gössi motion «Schweizer Teilnahme an Return-Hub-Projekten» (26.3244). It calls for Switzerland to participate in return centres outsourced abroad. In the majority’s view, the deterrent effect of such return hubs is needed. They would also allow rejected asylum seekers to await their return to their home countries in third countries rather than in Switzerland.

On the one hand, the minority has concerns about whether the fundamental rights of particularly vulnerable people are guaranteed at return hubs. On the other hand, it does not want to oblige the Federal Council to participate in such projects already, when neither their suitability nor the possibility of operating them at reasonable costs has been demonstrated.
